"A Foreign Affair"
First and foremost a jazz trumpeter, Don Rader has, over his 39 years in the profession, steadily built a reputation of international status as a multi - faceted musician ... performer, composer, arranger, clinician and recording artist.
Don left university in 1959 to join the great Woody Herman Herd. This was followed by long stints with (in order) Maynard Ferguson, Count Basie, Terry Gibbs Dream Band, Les Brown, Bill Holman, Stan Kenton, Toshiko Akioshi, Henry Mancini, Benny Carter and Louis Bellson, Bud Shank, the Lighthouse Allstars and Don Burrows.
Don has also toured with Della Reese, Sarah Vaughn, Andy Williams, Percy Faith, Diana Ross, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lewis (on & off for 28 years), and Bob Hope (on & off for 28 years including 5 tours of wartime Vietnam).
Don's clinic and workshop credits are endless, as are his Hollywood and New York film, TV and recording credits.
Don has been based in Sydney, Australia for the past four years but tours Japan once a year, Europe (usually Germany) once a year and two or three times to the USA.
Currently, Don is composing and arranging charts for the New Woody Herman Herd. These may possibly become a new CD.
