Song 1

"Let me be short and to the point. I am the funk"
Professor Groove

Professor Groove & the Booty Affair are specialists in Lowdown Streetfunk, Disco and House Grooves. They have forged a sound that is steeped in warm 70's funk yet sits comfortably on pumping disco dance floors. They work the dancefloor like a DJ, spinning from one song to the next without ever dropping the groove or breaking between songs. Think of a sound that combines Prince, P-Funk, Grandmaster Flash, James Brown, and The Chemical Brothers, and you're starting to get there.

Professor Groove are ostensibly a five piece band, comprising bass, drums, guitar, keyboards and vocals, but often expand to include extra musicians, including a female singer and percussionist. The group is a phenomenon of the Sydney live music scene, with an extensive following built up over years playing residencies at Kinselas, the Basement and the Harbourside Brasserie. They are now a national touring act.

The Booty Affair released their debut CD "And so Funketh the Wise Man" late 2001 on Vitamin Records, and have received extensive national airplay and solid sales. A new single, "Do Wot I Can", featuring remixes by Rob Milton, Sing, and King Tim, is slated for release later this year.

The lineup for Professor Groove & the Booty Affair is:

Roland Kapferer - (aka Professor Groove), vocals (ex leader singer SWOOP)
Josh Beagley - guitar and vintage keyboards (ex-guitarist, SWOOP)
Calvin Welch - drums (played with everyone from Christine Anu and Marcia Hines to Earth, Wind and Fire)
Sam Dixon - bass (DIG, Multiball)
Richard Sanford - keyboards

Regular guests include Rebekah Smith, vocals, and Jerome Smith, vocals and percussion.

Professor Groove most recently played a legendary Saturday night residency (for four years!) at the Harbourside Brasserie, which was hugely successful and only finished with the sale of the venue. During that time they have also played regularly at The Basement, Kinselas, The Golden Sheaf, The Civic Hotel, the Roxbury, Hotel Bondi, and numerous Universities and Colleges.

They have toured Australia extensively, most recently headlining the St Kilda Festival in Melbourne, as well as numerous gigs in Adelaide, Perth, Byron Bay and Brisbane. Professor Groove & the Booty Affair have also performed at many corporate functions and high profile events for Telstra, Vodafone, Bam SSB, Sculpture by the Sea, MCA Gallery, Song Zu, 2Day FM, Readers Digest, ACP, Sydney Fringe Festival, Sydney Festival, St Kilda and Adelaide Festivals.

"... an incandescent burst of live Future Skool Funk"
Stephen Ferris, DJ (Rhythm FM, Kiss FM)

"... a funk throwdown filled with brutally extended jams, sleazy lowdown JB and Sly-style funk, fat disco grooves, and large dollops of old skool rhyming and chanting. With dueling wah guitars and a subterranean bottom end, The Professor and his cohorts will blow your minds and shake your rumps. Guaranteed ... or your whiteness back. Like 9 Cans of Wet Magic Shave"
Drum Media, March 2000
