Quincy Jones started out as a trumpet player and slowly moved into arranging in the50's and 60's and then moved into film scoring, during his heyday, he was composing/arranging up to 10 movie scores a year. He was also the first black to become vice president of a record company - Mercury Records. He set out signing black artists along with Motown.
He formed his own record label in the late 70's called Qwest Records and signed and produced the likes of Ray Charles/ The Brothers Johnson/ Patti Austin/ James Ingram/ George Benson/ Rufus & Chaka Khan and most notably, Michael Jackson. (Off The Wall sold 10 million, Thriller sold 50 million, and Bad sold 25 million.)
A considerable amount of the music we play is off his own records The Dude, Back On The Block and Q's Jook Joint as well as Michael Jackson, George Benson, James Ingram, The Brothers Johnson, and Chaka Khan among others.
Quincy Jones always surrounded himself with the world's best session musicians, songwriters/arrangers and engineers, (known as Q's posse.) (Rod wrote ‘Rock With You', ‘Baby Be Mine', ‘Lady In My Life' and ‘Thriller' plus many more for other artists, including 'Give Me The Night' for George Benson).
